Hilary Eddy - Biography
Hilary Eddy was born in England and spent her childhood in Surrey where her mother’s love of colourful flowers and her father’s broad appreciation of nature proved to have a profound influence on her artistic concerns and interests. Following a formal education at grammar school she attended college in North Wales where she was awarded the Douglas Williams Memorial Prize for Excellence in Art. She then came to the U.S. where she pursued her career at Purdue University, gaining her M.A. in Fine Art in 1974.
Eddy has held more than 60 solo exhibitions of her oil paintings nationally at museums, universities and commercial galleries, including the Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences, IN,; the Reed Whipple Cultural Centre, Las Vegas, NV; the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI; the Chicago Botanic Garden. ILL; the Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute, IN; the Reed Whipple Cultural Centre, Las Vegas, NV; the Berman Museum, Anniston, AL; Olin Fine Arts Centre, Washington, PA. Eddy has exhibited her paintings internationally at AmerikaHaus Gallery. Hamburg, Germany; John Innes Institute, Norwich, England and her work has toured Tai Wan and Singapore.
She has won over 40 awards in national and regional exhibitions, including the Grand Prize and 1st Place award in the experimental category in The Artist’s Magazine, which had over 10,000 entries; Best of Show. National Art Competition, La Jolla, CA; Best of Show (twice) Washington and Jefferson Painting Show, Washington, PA; Best of Show (twice) and a 2nd Place Award Indiana Artists’ Club, Indianapolis Museum of Art, IN; Best of Show (acquisition) Sheldon Swope Art Museum, IN; numerous awards in the Hoosier Salon Exhibit and merit awards in Redding, CA; Rhinelander, WI; National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society where she has been awarded Signature Membership. She has also been awarded Signature Membership in the International Artists’ Society.
Eddy’s paintings have been exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH; Salmagundi Club Galleries, New York; Owensboro Museum of Art, KY. She is represented in numerous public and corporate collections, amongst which are Privat Galerie Plewast, Hamburg. Germany; the St. Louis University Museum MO.; Lincoln National Insurance Cos., Fort Wayne, IN; Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute, IN; Greater Lafayette Museum of Art, IN; American States Insurance Co. Indianapolis, IN; Specialty Hybrids, West Lafayette, IN; Hoyt Institute of Fine Art, New Castle, PA; 1st National Bank of Odon, IN; Digestive Health Care, Indianapolis, IN; Morton Community Centre, West Lafayette, IN; Draftmaster Inc., Lafayette, IN; Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN; and the Hillcrest Family Dental Centre, Rensselaer, IN. She also has work in many private collections throughout the U.S. Canada, Europe, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan.
Her paintings have been featured in the publications International Artist, The Artist’s Magazine, Best of Worldwide Abstract and Still Life Artists, Arts Indiana, Mendocino Arts Magazine, Studio Visit, Art Crowd Magazine, Direct Art, Sycamore Review, and the Daler-Rowney Art Paper. She has received grants from the Indiana Arts Commission, The Wabash Valley Arts Project and the Greater Lafayette Museum of Art.
Hilary lives on the north coast of California with her Norwegian Elkhound, Heidi Lyn. She is represented by the Prentice Gallery in Mendocino, CA, Saper Galleries in East Lansing MI, and Ramey Fine Art, Palm Desert, CA.
